Cremation Vaults
Similar to burial vaults to accommodate a casket, cremation vaults are used to provide protection to a cremation urn when burial takes place following cremation. Generally cremation vaults are made of fiberglass or reinforced concrete, in some cases with a waterproof liner. They are a wise choice as cremation burials are at a rather shallow depth and often in traditional burial lots. If a future casket interment takes place nearby the shifting of the earth during excavation may cause something as small as an urn to be disturbed. In many cases families also place personal items such as a flower, photograph, or memento inside the cremation vault along with the urn as a final tribute. For permanent identification a name and date plaque is affixed to the top.
