Funeral Expenses

There are basically four categories of fees that make up the total funeral expenses: Casket & Merchandise Selections, Professional Service Charges, Cash Disbursements (aspects outside of the funeral home) and taxes on applicable items. HST is additional to all services and products offered by our funeral home. Funerals that had been prepaid in full or in part prior to July 1, 2010 will not be subject to HST.

Professional service charges represent the costs involved with providing consultation and coordination of the arrangements of your choice, administrative and documentation services, transportation and care of the deceased including embalming or alternative preparations, the use of our facilities and services of our personnel to carry out the funeral arrangements and other transportation details as required,

The type of service selected has a bearing on the total of the professional service charges.  A complete itemized price list is available at no charge upon request.

Casket & Merchandise Selections

This section is specific to the casket that a family selects. All of our caskets and merchandise is priced separately - meaning the price you see for the casket is for the casket itself with no other items included that can often become confusing to families. Some of the other types of merchandise you might find in this section of the funeral account are: Burial Vaults, Cremation Urns, and upgraded Stationary packages. Again, each is itemized based on your selection and a total is itemized under the "Casket & Merchandise Selections."

Cemetery & Cremation Expenses

With cemetery and cremation arrangements there are also various aspects involved.  These may include the purchase of interment rights for a lot in a cemetery or niche in a columbarium.  A percentage of the cost of the interment rights is placed in the cemetery's care and maintenance fund (perpetual care).  There is also a fee for either the interment of a casket or urn, called an interment fee or opening and closing fee.  Additionally in the case of cremation there is a fee for the crematorium's services.  This is a separate charge and not included in any funeral service package or professional services.  The cemetery and cremation related expenses will vary depending upon your choices.  So many options are available we suggest a personal consultation with our staff to discuss your needs and wishes.

Cash Disbursements

Cash Disbursements are as they imply. To aid the families we serve, we will cover third party expenses and place them on our account as a convenience.

These items are not marked up and only the exact "cost" is included on the funeral account. Typical cash disbursements might include:

  • Newspaper Notices
  • Honorariums for clergy, musicians or vocalists
  • Coroner's Cremation Certificates
  • Reception Catering
